Tough Start To The Game

The Commanders had a tough start to the game. Typically, we are a team that starts out slow with a few players needing time to get adjusted to the game with a bit of ball watching while the other team scores a few quick goals. I’ve seen a tremendous amount of soccer in my life and realize that a game can be decided in the first minute of the game with a 1-0 win. This game had a great deal of ball watching from the whole team, as NEFC scored several quick goals and seemed quite in control of the game.

Half-Time Adjustments

Recovering on defense and increasing our effort to pressure the ball. We focused on always being near a player on the opposing team when they have a ball and that all players have a responsibility to play team defense no matter what position they were playing. We also went into the second half with the mentality of winning this half and resetting the score to 0-0.

The Commanders did have a stronger half and were able to put a few chances together, but also reduced the amount of goals that their opponents scored in the second half, but the score ended in favor of NEFC. (15-0)

Player of the Match

Player of the match goes to Cal Darlington. Cal was one of the few players right from the start of the game ready to play. In the second half he was putting pressure on the ball, moving off the ball and attacking the defense with aggressive skills and dribbling. He also made several saves in the first half while playing keeper, but I learned a long time ago that the keeper can only save so many shots by himself.
