One Game Winning Streak

The Generals got their first win last week in the opening game and looked to get their first winning streak. Playing on a smaller field allowed a lot of quick transitions from both teams throughout the game. It took some time for the Generals to adjust to this style of game as they have been utilizing a possession style tactic most games. Franklin started off the scoring early with a breakdown in the defensive area. The intensity level quickly rose for the Generals over the next ten minutes with multiple chances in the attacking third. Alvyn Trotta was able to sneak one past the keeper on a breakaway with a defender breathing down his neck. The attacking chances on both ends continued to occur with either team ready to take the lead. Eventually, Connor LaChance scored the game winning goal early by scoring with a low shot to the corner that the keeper got a hand on, but couldn’t stop completely.

Half-Time Adjustments

The Generals wanted to keep playing with energy and limit the number of mistakes was a key point of emphasis for the last 25 minutes of the game. Callen Ploss showed great intensity throughout the game, playing physical and was confident with his passing and at one point took a strong shot that missed wide. The second half was constant back and forth transitions with each team shooting and getting close to scoring multiple times. The General were able to grind out the win with neither team scoring in the second half with a 2-1 final. The Generals officially have a two game win streak!

Players of the Match

Players of the match go to Ben Mason and Tyler Rice. Both players were strong in the defensive end on a consistent basis, containing the attacking player which created less opportunities for Franklin to get an easy break towards the net. With Cam Darlington and Cameron McGeary having strong performances in net in both halves, Ben and Tyler were able to be more aggressive offensively throughout the game. They consistently made runs into the attacking half and either distributed to their teammates or created chances off of the dribble. They movement throughout the game created a lot of confusion for their opponents.

Overall, this was another strong game from the Generals. Their pressure defensively was strong, they attacked with purpose and they continued with high energy throughout the game. Possession with passing and containing on defense will be the next step for this young group to make that next important step.
