Passing Combinations

The Generals showed tremendous progress over the past few weeks, especially by finding open space and checking to the ball which helped create some amazing passing combinations. The ability to find open space made it easier for the Gunners to get out of their defensive half which has been a challenge at times this season. Alvyn Trotta set a great example for his team by constantly moving side to side to receive passes from our midfielders and defenders. His response wasn’t just to put his head down and go to goal, instead he used his vision to hit an open teammate streaking towards the net. Cam Darlington started in net and with the help from Mason Mandraccia, Tyler Rice and Ben Mason on defense they stopped Juventus’s attack often. I’ve been reiterating over the past few weeks that our major contribution on the defensive end has been coming from Danny McDonald, Braydon Tata, Ryan Chandonnet and with help from William LaChance and Cal Darlington at midfield. Their ability to recover and track back has made scoring very challenging for the opposing team. The half ended 2-2 with one of our goals being created from a Connor LaChance, Ben and Alvyn combination that left the other team just watching in admiration.

Half-Time Adjustments

First half showed many positive decisions and aggressive play from the Gunners, so consistently and finishing the game strong was the main discussion. Multiple times in the first half their opponents stepped up and intercepted our passes so we wanted to make sure that we were checking towards the ball rather than waiting for it to come to us which would help create more offensive opportunities in the attacking half.

Players of the Match

Each week this decision becomes tougher and tougher as the Gunners continue to grow as a team and make adjustments from our primary goal during weekly training. Player of the match goes to Ben Mason, who was consistent once again on the defensive end, but this week made several great runs from the back with the ball. He also made himself much more of an offensive threat by supporting our strikers and midfielders in the offensive half. Honorary mention goes to the duo of William and Cal who were given a few minutes in each half and made the most out of their time. They are picking up on the team game and adjusting to several different responsibilities each time they step on the field. They put great pressure on the other team and even had a few very exciting chances to put one in the back of the net! Final score ended 5-2, but the game seemed much closer with Juventus scoring two “Lucky” or unfortunate goals. Overall, great game from the Gunners!
