Great Team Game

The game started a bit late, but both teams came out ready to play. This was a complete team from the Generals today and they displayed a great team first attitude for the first time. Danny McDonald, Braydon Tata, Cal Darlington, and William LaChance were relentless running up and down the field in order to recover back on defense. This key change was something missing from the first two games. Cam Darlington connected on several beautiful give and go passes to Alvyn Trotta in the first half that helped break out on a counter attack. This has been something that coach Markens has been working on during training and they clearly have been putting in the effort. For twenty-seven minutes, the Gunners fought hard, played team defense, passed to open space and created some offensive opportunities. A few breakdowns during those three minutes by midfield tracking back left several opponents open and they capitalized by scoring three goals. Half ended 3-0 in favor of New England Surf.

Half-Time Adjustments

Consistency was the focus for the second half by tracking back on defense for the full thirty minutes and asking for subs if they needed it. Play was exciting with both teams competing throughout the half. Markens Benoit and Ben Mason were steller on defense the entire game, winning the ball consistently and were very poised with the ball making smart and simple plays every time. Alvyn came out of goal for the last fifteen minutes and let his presence be known by scoring two goals and causing chaos for the other team the rest of the game. Tyler, Cam and Alvyn were all solid in goal making several important saves throughout the game. The Gunners lost 3-2, but we may look back and remember this as the game they “got it.”

Players of the Match

Players of the match go to Alvyn “Mojo” Trotta and Ben “The Ironman” Mason. Alvyn was strong all game on the field and in goal. His key contribution came from scoring two goals and creating chances with tremendous hustle that almost tied up the game. Ben was solid from start to finish, playing every minute of the game. His awareness on defense put him in the right spot, and everytime he won the ball, the game seemed to slow down for him as he always made the right choice whether that was to dribble forward, connect on a give and go, or make the simple pass out wide. The final player of the match goes to the entire team. It was a great game to watch from a coach who loves to watch good soccer.
