The Rematch

The Commanders were playing Juventus for the second day in a row after losing 15-0 the previous day. The plan was to have a stronger start than yesterday’s game. We begin with some good passing the first few minutes as well as maintaining possession of the ball with controlled dribbling which held off the attack from Juventus a bit longer. The Gunner’s did demonstrate more effort by going into physical challenges, but positioning on defense still remained a significant weakness. Several times their opponents attacked with the ball and our defenders and midfielders were caught on the opposite side giving the other team easy breakaways and free shots on the keeper.  The first half ended 6-0 in favor of Juventus.

Half-Time Adjustments

A much stronger first half, with most goals coming from not recovering on defense, we discussed the importance of being aware when the other team is in possession. Many player’s reaction to get back on defense and between the other team and the goal is still a work in progress. Often the boys would run back on defense after their player received the ball, which is often too late. The second half was still a work in process, but the boys required less reminders to track back as the game went on. We added some excitement by making a few good attacking runs as a team, but still couldn’t manage to put one in. The game ended 11-0, but a much better performance from the boys.

Players of the Match

Players of the match go to Alex Harned and William LaChance. Alex was great on the ball and very active in today’s game. He was constantly using skill moves to juke the other team and showed great control throughout the game. William created many chances on the offensive end during the game. His ability to get passes from our defenders and midfielders throughout the game was based on his movement off the ball. He was constantly finding open space against the other team by making diagonal runs to the sides and finding splits between the Juventus defense.
