Season Opening Game
It was a great Sunday morning for soccer as the Young Gunners have been anticipating the season opener for weeks. Without outdoor practice sessions prior to the game, there is no anticipating performance. How will they do for the time being outdoors since last fall?
Opening
The plan was to make sure the Young Gunners were focused, ready for action from the start of the whistle. Their response was phenomenal with aggressive play, high energy, and a strong desire to compete. Their opponent possessed the ball well, but the Gunners closed down quickly and made it difficult to penetrate dangerous areas. At the end of the first half, the Gunners had a 2-1 lead.
Half-Time Adjustments
At halftime, we discussed the need to possess the ball a bit more and string a few more passes together. Though the Gunners were scoring, their opponent had much better control of the ball in possession. Otherwise, to keep up the high intensity, and energy.
2nd Half- Final Result
This half was a great battle of intense play from both sides, as the opponent pushed to score early. Gunners were resilient with sound defending, and sharp goalkeeping. On the offensive side, the Gunners were clinical finishing their scoring opportunities well. 6-2 win was a strong statement, reflective of their effort. Great first game!
Players of the Match
Cameron - was phenomenal in goal in the second half, with quick reflex on point-blank shots, especially during a time when the opponent was putting lots of pressure, and creating glorious scoring opportunities.
Alvyn - from the start, he was aggressive on offense, hungry to find the net, and finished off his opportunities well. His energy is contagious and helps his team get up their spirit to compete. Scoring a hat trick was a gutsy performance.
Congrats on your First Win Young Gunners!
